The Third ODA Seoul International Conference |
|
The Third ODA Seoul International Conference was held on November
4th at the Westin Chosun Hotel in the presence of representatives
and experts from international development agencies and major donor
countries as well as non-donor countries. Hosted by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade and KOICA and presided by Johaness
Linn from the Wolfensohn Center for Development at Brookings,
the conference ended in success. Under the catch phrase
"The Changing International Development Cooperation Environment
and New Global Partnership for Development Cooperation" the main
issue was the impact the global financial crisis had on development
assistance and the possibility of a system that could respond to
that change.
The first session examined the progress in the MDGs and dealt
with the changing aid architecture. In the second session,
the significance of development partnership, sustainable development
and other major issues in global development was discussed.
The forum was meaningful in that it provided a chance for the stocktaking
of the major issues in development assistance. More so to Korea which
is in the process of transforming itself to a donor country and seeking
effective means in the pursuit of mutual goals with the international
community.
